National Irrigation Board managed rice and maize irrigation scheme at Bura and H

These are artificial channels that brings irrigation water from a water source to the area to be irrigated. The canals conveyed water from Tana River to all the irrigation scheme. The canals supplied different users with water at the right moment and in the right quantity, reducing losses as much as possible in order to guarantee the safety of the infrastructure. Within the irrigation scheme all the canals were not lined with concrete but were earthen. This implies that there was a lot of water seepage and erosion.
